This evening, Kensington Palace released a video featuring the Princess of Wales and the UK’s Chief Scout, Dwayne Fields.

In the short video, shot last month, the Princess is “…seen taking a stroll near the shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District last month with a group of Scouts from Cumbria and Stretford, Greater Manchester,” per this Hello story. The Princess has been Joint President of the Scouts since 2020, a position she shares with the Duke of Kent.

More from Stephanie Petit’s People article.

The royal greeted the group by saying, “Hello, everyone! How are you all doing? Good?” and the video showed Kate crouched down to look at a map on the ground.

She said, “What’s so fantastic about Scouts is it’s the same foundations that have always been there, and despite how different the modern day world is now, actually, it still resonates with so many young people and it’s making such a massive difference to them.”

Kate also agreed that the skills learned by Scouts are “life skills” that can be applied at school, work and beyond.

The scouts are ages 10 – 15, and they were all working on their Naturalist badges. Below are the requirements for earning the badge. The Princess also says in the video, “I find it a very spiritual and very intense emotional reconnection, I suppose, these environments. Not everyone has that same relationship perhaps with nature, but it is so therefore meaningful for me as a place to balance and find a sort of sense of peace and reconnection in what is otherwise a very busy world.”

More about Mr. Fields, who became the UK’s chief scout in late 2024, from The Mirror’s coverage.

The video marks the first time that Kate has met the new Chief Scout since his appointment. Born in Jamaica, Mr Fields came to the UK at the age of six. He grew up in inner city London without access to nature and said the Scouts made a “huge difference” to his life.

In the video, Mr. Fields says, “I think it’s really important for young people to have access to nature because it’s a space where they can push themselves, they can challenge themselves, they learn leadership skills, spend time making friends and those life-long really great memories that we all hold onto. And I think if we can do that, we’ll build up a generation who is passionate about our natural spaces and passionate about protecting them as well.”

We return to The Mirror’s story, quoting the Princess.

“It’s so beautiful because so many of the walks here you can see Lake Windermere because it is huge isn’t it?” She also asks them: “Look how hilly it is in here. Have you done any of these big mountains?”

One more photo of the Princess with some of the scouts.

And here is the full 2-minute video.

Now for a look at what Kate wore in the video.

It looks like she was in her G-STAR RAW Cargo Ultra-High Skinny Jeans (sold out, similar style available here, $70), seen in this photo as worn in May 2023 during the Coronation Weekend for the “Big Help Out.” You may recall this was a Wales family engagement, when they joined other volunteers renovating the 3rd Upton Scouts Hut in Slough, outside London.

She also wore the Bella Hoskyns Bomber Jacket (£385, about $500 at today’s exchange rates), first noted in the Mother’s Day photo released in 2024. The piece is done in an olive green color with ribbed charcoal trim at the waist and cuffs; it is lined in a quilted fabric. The jacket also has a Nehru collar with detachable trim, a hidden front zipper, and front pockets.

With thanks to Danielle via Middleton Maven, the Princess is wearing a sweater by Emilia Wickstead. It is the label’s Otis Cashfeel Cable Knit Sweater ($755) in the ‘sand’ colorway. The sweater is 100% wool with a relaxed fit at the shoulder and bust with a close-fit waist and ribbing at the waist, collar, and cuffs. The style is also offered in ivory.

The Princess wore her Berghaus Supalite II Boots (£185, about $245), a lightweight, waterproof style.

Some readers will recognize the cap, a Really Wild Clothing design called the Lindsey style (no longer available) in the ‘Tweed Moss Fleck’ colorway. In this photo, you see the Princess wearing it in March 2013 during volunteer training with the UK Scouts. (That is bread dough on her hands; the Duchess was making ‘bread twists’ during the training.)

We saw the return of the Princess’s Spells of Love Twisted Hoop Earrings (£60, roughly $80 at today’s exchange rates). The earrings are sterling silver with 18K gold vermeil. They are shown below as worn on a previous occasion.
