I’ve tested Nespresso Vertuo machine in the past, so I’m excited to try the smallest (and most affordable) Nespresso Vetuo Pop Plus.
If you’re looking for a compact and budget-friendly Nespresso Vertuo model, I’m sure you’ll love Vertuo Pop Plus. It’s the brand’s smallest and most affordable brewer. Vertuo Pop plus comes in a range of modern colors so there’s something for every taste.
With its compact design, it’s easy to find a space for this machine on any countertop. Dimensions are 8.6 x 14 x 10.4 in (W x D x H).
The removable water tank can hold 25 ounces of water. There’s also a container for used pods which can hold up 5 capsules depending on the capsule size.
Nespresso Vertuo Pop Plus retails for $129.00. There are also deluxe models that feature chrome accents and a larger 32 oz water tank ($149.00).
Usability
Much like other Nespresso Vertuo models, Vertuo Pop machine requires no effort to keep it up and running. You simply insert the capsule and the machine automatically adjusts temperature, pressure, and brewing time according to the capsule.
The machine needs less than 30 seconds to heat up and it can do 5 different cup sizes. You can make single and double espresso shots. You can also brew 5 oz, 8 oz or 12 ounce cup of coffee.
This model also gives an option to make concentrated brew using any of your favorite capsules for iced coffees and recipes with milk. Concentrated brew option makes 0.85 oz espresso, 1.4oz double espresso, and 1.4 oz and 2.7 oz coffee.
The machine also allows you to set favorite coffee volumes from 0.7 ounces up to 18 ounces. You get all the options that you get with more expensive models.
Every coffee pod I brewed during testing came out full bodied and flavorful. The machine also delivers that rich espresso shots with crema the brand is known for.
Vertuo Pop pods
The Vertuo Pop Plus only accepts Nespresso Vertuo capsules (not the original Nespresso pods).
There are 40 flavors to choose from plus limited editions. Price: $0.90 – $1.40 per capsule.
Nespresso offers it’s own recycling channel and makes recycling easy. The company offers free pod-recycling bags with prepaid UPS shipping labels. Bags can be mailed back to Nespresso. You can also bring used pods to a boutique retailer and the company will do the rest.
What I don’t like
If you’re using this machine to brew full cups of coffee more often than espresso shots, you will need to refill water tank more often. The water tank is small so if you need larger water tank, I recommend opting for VertuoPlus.
The machine is also a bit noisy.
Vertuo Pop Plus vs Vertuo Plus
When it comes to taste and simplicity of use, these two models are pretty much the same. They both use Barcode Reading Technology and adjust the brewing process to each capsule. They can both do espresso shots and brewed coffee.
But Vertuo Pop Plus offers more options. While both models can do 1.4 oz, 2.7 oz, 5 oz and 8 oz, Pop plus can also do 12 ounces. Also, Vertuo Plus doesn’t have concentrated brew option like Pop Plus. When it comes to cup sizes and options they offer, Pop Plus is a better choice.
Vertuo Plus is also much heavier than Pop Plus – 10 lbs compared to 7.9 lbs. But it does have a bigger water tank – 40 ounces compared to 25 ounces on Pop Plus. Vertuo Plus is also more expensive $169.00.
Nespresso Vertuo Pop vs Keurig
While both systems use single cups and are super easy to use, Nespresso is so much better. First of all, it can do both espresso and regular coffee. Right now they don’t make a Keurig machine that can do espresso shots.
While Keurig k cups are much cheaper than Vertuo capsules (only $0.35 – $0.60 per serving), Nespresso simply brews a better cup of coffee.
If you want a machine that does everything for you but you don’t want to spend a ton of money, Vertuo Pop Plus is just perfect. It’s much cheaper than other Vertuo models but it delivers rich espresso shots and cups of coffee just like more expensive models.
